When in Europe, Mykonos is a Must By Gerry Munday, Global Travel Retail Director, Furla

We were very fortunate to be invited to attend a wedding in Mykonos and decided to combine this with a holiday.

Mykonos is a lovely island, but if you are looking for a sightseeing holiday, then this is not the place to go because it is much more suited for a beach holiday or if you are looking for total relaxation.

There are many accommodation options available – from rooms, studios and apartments to 5-star hotels. If you are looking for luxury accommodation, then consider St. John’s or Mykonos Grand.

We stayed in Ornos, which is just outside of Mykonos’ town centre, and much quieter.

The Anemos Apartments offer rooms, studios and one bedded apartments, in a tranquil setting. It has its own pool and a bar that serves breakfast and lunch daily from 0800hrs to 0000hrs.

The owners are amazing hosts and are always happy to help. Also, it is recommended to book directly with them as you get a much better rate than booking on websites like Booking.com.

Taxis are not easy to find on the island, so it is better to hire a car at the airport or you can rent one from the Anemos Apartments. They would also be able to arrange your airport transfers – Ornos is approximately 15 minutes from the airport.

There are also buses from Ornos to Mykonos town which run every 30 minutes.

There are plenty of restaurants in Ornos with reasonably priced menus. Our absolute favourite was 70 Apomero, but if you want to splash out then go to Constantis, which is on Ornos Beach.

Mykonos’ town centre is very quaint with narrow streets – our favourite dining place was Avaro, which didn’t come cheap, but it was worth it. Still, there are other reasonably priced tavernas in town that you can explore.

You can shop till you drop in the town centre, from destination products to Louis Vuitton.

Panoramas, Psou, Paradise are some of the beautiful bays in Mykonos and all of them are easily accessed by car. They can also be seen from boats that leave Ornos Beach (a 5-10 minutes’ walk from the Anemos Apartments), with a hop-on-hop-off ticket going for 20 Euros. Beach beds on Ornos Beach range from 20-30 Euros per day for two beds and a sun shade.

If you haven’t been to Mykonos before, it’s an absolute must. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
